Last chance to vote

The awards are back for the second time and this year they have been expanded to cover fifteen seperate catagories. As with the first awards last year, the categories for Best Doctor, Best Companion and Best Story have been split into Classic and New to make voting as fair as possible because while everyone has seen the show since it returned in 2005, not everyone is as familiar with the classic series and it deserves to get equal representation.

The awards for Best Villian has been modified slightly to cover a wider range and now sits alongside Best Alien/Monster Species. This will mean that individual baddies will be recognised apart from their race, for example. Restac could be nominated seperately from The Silurians. Other new catagories include Best Guest/One Off Character, Best Writer and Best Director.

As with last year, it is not compulsory to vote in every category. You can vote for as little as one or as many as fifteen when you submit your nominations, but votes will only count once so think carefully about your choices.

We had a tremendous response last year and it has been just as good so far this year, but we want even more of you to put your votes in. There are many ways that you can sumbit your nominations. You can either send a DM via Twitter to either TardisSpoilers or me, PopRockGeek, (if you are unable to DM either of us let us know so we can make that possible) or send us a PM on the forum (requires registration) or by sending a personal message via Facebook (if you wish to know how please ask on Facebook). Alternatively, you can send an email to us HERE. Just copy and paste the categories below, along with your answers in whichever way is easiest for you.

Teasers For Episode 10 - The Girl Who Waited

Tom Macrae, writer of The Girl Who Waited, the tenth episode of Series 6, took to his Twitter account yesterday to update the fans with some teasers from his episode, including three quotes.

Macrae, who has previously penned the 2006 Cybermen 2 parter, Rise Of The Cybermen/The Age Of Steel gave us the following dialogue teasers from his script:
  • "How can you have a door without a wall?"
  • "The Green Anchor…The Red Waterfall."
  • "You want to update Twitter!?"
As well as that, he was also generous enough to give us a cryptic clue about something to look out for in the episode....
"Amy’s favourite cat was called Biggles. What’s important is – that’s the name she DIDN’T use later on.."
While he was at it, he also took a moment to clear up some rumours that had been floating around, seemingly out of nowhere and yet reported in many places around the net, about the title of his episode:
"My ep was NEVER called ‘The Green Anchor’, but the Green Anchor is very, VERY important! And also the best place to be."
Just in case he is feeling generous with the teasers again, you should all follow him HERE

Join The Infinite Quest - The Brain Of Morbius

We return to the Fourth Doctor for the latest story in the run, and this week it is the turn of The Brain Of Morbius.

Mad scientist Mehendri Solon is building a body from spare parts to house the disembodied brain of the evil Time Lord Morbius, and fancies the Doctor's head as the final piece...

The Brain of Morbius was the fifth story in season thirteen of Doctor Who. It saw a number of references to the Doctor's past and featured the controversial Morbius Doctors. The story was noteably influenced by Mary Shelley's Frankenstein and the classic Hammer Horrors.

The next story will be announced on July 30th. Come on over to the forum today and join in with the discussion of this classic story by visiting The Doctor In The TARDIS Forum

Series 6 Part 2 DVD Update

Some provisional artwork has been released for the Series 6 Part 2 DVD set. As you can see on the covers it states that this is not the final artwork, though usually once we have these available there are very few changes made to the covers.

No release date has been announced at the moment, but many sources are speculating a release on October 24th. Prices will likely be the same as the part 1 sets which had an RRP of £17.99 for standard or £23.99 for BluRay. Prices though will vary depending on when and where you purchase.

Episode 10 title revealed

The BBC seem to be spoiling Doctor Who fans at the moment. Yesterday it was not one, but two trailers, & today they are giving us a previously unknown episode title.

They have put together a guide to the rest of Series 6 & in it they have revealed that the title of episode 10 will be ...

The Girl Who Waited

In the past Amy 'Amelia' Pond has been called 'the girl who waited' by the Doctor, so does this mean that episode 10 will be Amy centric? Or, will we possibly see a return of young Amelia? (I do vaguely remember a rumour floating around about that at some point!) Or, is it just a red herring & this particular 'girl who waited' will be someone completely different. Only time will tell!

Most of the rest of the info in the article concerns writers & directors, plus some guest stars, although no-one we didn't already know about. It also includes the synopsis of 'Let's Kill Hitler' that we posted previously HERE

If you want to read the rest of the BBC's Guide to the Rest of the Series visit the official site

So ... what are your thoughts on this new title?

River Song figure & Pandorica Chair

You may remember about 3 weeks ago I told you about this set, comprising of a River Song figure with the Pandorica Chair, which was being sold exclusively at San Diego Comic Con.

Well, with Comic Con now over, Forbidden Planet have some news that might just please those of you who weren't able to attend SDCC.

This set is to be given a general release on August 22nd.

You can pre-order it now at a cost of £22.99 from their website.

Miracle Day Episode 1 Ratings UK Update

Last week TDITT brought you the news that the first episode of 'Miracle Day' had pulled in overnight ratings of 4.8 million.

Today BARB have revealed the final consolidated ratings for the episode (without iplayer). They are a massive 6.59 million, an increase of 1.79 million from the overnight figure. This brings it into line with the ratings for the first episode of 'Children of Earth.'

From these ratings it looks like fears that Torchwood's audience might dip due to people downloading the US broadcast may be unfounded, although it will be easier to judge that after the series has completed its run.

It also remains to be seen if there will be a knock on effect from the controversy surrounding the fact that the UK is getting a slightly different edit of Episode 3 to the US.

For the moment though, Torchwood appears to be doing well.

New Series 6 Wallpaper

To accompany the announcement of the return of Doctor Who next month, BBC America have revealed this brilliant, and slightly intriguing, new wallpaper.

You can download it in one of 4 different sizes from the BBCA website. I have!

Thanks to Peri-Peri from our forum for finding it for us.

Karen Gillan Confirms Return For Series 7

Karen Gillan has this evening confirmed to Zap2it that she will be returning to Doctor Who as Amy Pond for series 7 of the show. It isn't stated whether she will be appearing in all episodes, though a return is definate. This should put an end to some of the speculation that has been doing the rounds in recent months about whether or not she will be returning.

Trailer for 'The God Complex'

It seems Doctor Who's visit to this year's San Diego Comic Con has led to us being spoiled. Not only so we have a trailer for the second half of Series 6, but also one for Toby Whithouse's latest episode, 'The God Complex.'

'The God Compex' is the 11th episode of Series 6.

Series 6 Part 2 trailer

The trailer for the second half of Series 6 is out & they've managed to cram a lot into 68 seconds! Look out for some very familiar faces & a few old enemies:

This is from the BBC site so may not play outside the UK, sorry.

Series 6 returns next month

Reports filtering out of San Diego Comic Con are saying that Matt Smith has confirmed that the second half of Series 6 of Doctor Who returns to BBC America on August 27th.

Based on how the series was shown before it is relatively safe to assume that will be the same date in the UK.

Some trailers have also now appeared on the BBC Doctor Who website & they look pretty amazing.

Don't know about you but now we have a date I'm on countdown.

Fifth Adventure Game details released

The BBC have today announced details of the fifth Doctor Who Adventure Game. The game, due out sometime in October will be called 'The Gunpowder Plot.' Here's some info:

It's the most ambitious Adventure Game to date and stars Matt Smith as the Doctor, Karen Gillan as Amy and for the first time, Arthur Darvill as Rory Williams. This new, dazzlingly epic story gives you the chance to battle aliens in London, 1605. But as well as extra-terrestrial monsters, you'll meet Guy Fawkes and really get a feel for what was happening at this incendiary moment in Britain's history. It's your chance to virtually step back in time, chat to famous figures and participate in one of the most notorious plots the world has ever known.

As well as all this the game will also see the return of two old enemies. Included with the info there is an early image of what the Guy Fawkes character may look like (below)

The BBC promise that the game will be:

... the most advanced of the Adventure Games so far. Gamers will be able to play as the Doctor, Amy and Rory, exploring the immersive environments of this historic period. The adventure will feature multi-linear gameplay, even more sophisticated puzzles, and a complex lighting system specifically designed to recreate the atmosphere of 17th Century London. And for the very first time, the introduction of portal technology will enable gamers to experience for themselves that the TARDIS really is bigger on the inside ...

Like all the previous games this one will be free to download in the UK.

You can read the full story on the BBC Doctor Who site.

Personally I love historical stuff, so this sounds really good to me. But what do you think? And who do you think those two old enemies could be?

New Exec Producer revealed

In an interview with the official BBC Doctor Who website Steven Moffat has revealed who will be taking over as one of the show's Executive Producers following the departures of both Piers Wenger & Beth Willis.

The new Executive Producer will be Caroline Skinner who has previously worked as a producer on 'Five Days' & 'The Fades.' She has also worked as a script editor on a number of other shows as you can see on her IMDB page.

It seems as if outgoing Executive Producer Piers Wenger was somewhat instrumental in Caroline's appointment. Asked how he met her, Moffat had this to say:

It's a funny thing about this show: the people who work on it, get so attached and so passionate about it, they can't just leave - they have to make sure it's going to be okay after they're gone. Just as when Russell was leaving, he sounded me out about taking over, Piers had strong views on who should be his successor. And as soon as I met Caroline, I knew exactly why. It takes a particular kind of person to work on this show - you have to be prepared to work every day of the week, laugh in the face of holidays, and above all, understand that Doctor Who is completely impossible to make and then make it anyway. I could see all that in Caroline - so off we go!

Caroline will be taking up her post almost immediately, working alongside Piers on his last episode as Executive Producer, this year's Christmas Special.

We would like to welcome Caroline to the world of Doctor Who & wish her all the best in her new role.

You can read the full interview with Steven Moffat on the BBC Doctor Who site.

Doctor Who Series 6 Part 2 Screengrabs

A new BBC trailer has aired promoting Autumn drama, and in amongst the other shows were some clips of Doctor Who, which you can catch a look at HERE. Though some of the scenes were have already been seen, others were new, and below you can see some (admittedly low quality) screengrabs. Click for larger images.

This is taken from the upcoming episode 12, which is as yet untitled and will feature the return of Craig and Sophie, as well as the Cybermats. The
episode will also feature Lynda Baron in a guest role.

It is unknown which episode this still is taken from, but it shows Amy armoured up with a sword and a staff and fighting what looks like the arms of a robot. Just behind Amy, though out of this particular shot, is Rory.

This picture is from the same scene as the first picture, only this time you can see the Doctor. It would appear as though they are kissing, but they aren't, though kissing is mentioned in the scene in the trailer.

This image comes from episode 9, Night Terrors, which has been penned by Mark Gatiss. It shows the Doctor, Rory and Alex (who is played by guest star Daniel Mays) and you can also see the head of one of the living dolls.

Doctor Who Series 6 Part 2 Clips

Here is a short selection of clips from the second half of Doctor Who, due to air in the Autumn, and taken from the BBC Autumn Drama Trailer, cut together and uploaded to Youtube by GavinWinters

Torchwood Sex Scene Scandal?

Fans of Torchwood: Miracle Day in the UK are upset after the BBC announced that it plans to cut parts of a sex scene from episode three of the show fearing an 'avalanche' of complaints from viewers.

The sex scene which features Captain Jack, played by John Barrowman, and a barman he meets in the show, will still be seen in the US version. Many fans are now questioning whether the BBC would have left the scene intact had it been between a man and a woman.

Torchwood: Miracle Day, although a spin off from a family show, has always had more adult themes and sex scenes and swearing have both featured heavily in the past, but the BBC suspect that complaints may arise over this scene, which Barrowman described as 'not gratuitous', despite it airing after the watershed.

What do you think of the removal of the scene? Are the BBC right to cut it or should the viewing audience be able to see the show exactly as it was intended in its late evening slot? Let us know below
