A Christmas Carol - Press Release

The BBC Press Release for th is years Christmas Special, A Christmas Carol, has revealed some more information about the upcoming episode and while there is little in there that is new, and the interviews are all old and have been read a hundred times over, there is some interesting plot stuff mentioned.
Its the deepest part of winter, the exact midpoint, Christmas Eve - halfway out of the dark. Amy and Rory are trapped on a stricken space liner that's plummeting through banks of thick icy fog to the surface of the planet below.

Only one man has the power to save them; only one man is in possession of a machine that can clear the fog and let them land safely.

That man is Kazran Sardick, a rich but lonely old miser who rules Sardicktown with a sky-mast of iron.

The Doctor's only chance of rescuing the ship's four thousand passengers is to save Kazran's soul and show him that life is worth living. For this he needs to go back, way back, to when Kazran was a boy with a life full of promise.

But can the Doctor put a song in Kazran's heart and love in his life, in time for Christmas? Can he bring him out of the dark?

Series 6 Episode Details Revealed

Lots of info coming through over the last few days about the Christmas Special and the first few episodes of Series 6 thanks to DWM and our brilliant forum members. Here is a breakdown of what we know.

A Christmas Carol
Amy and Rory are on their honeymoon during the episode, and run into trouble when the pleasure cruise spaceship they’re travelling on finds itself under attack from “something very nasty”. The spaceship is orbiting an alien planet, which is where the Doctor is for a considerate part of the story. This therefore causes Amy and Rory to be separated from the Time Lord for the majority of the episode.

Neil Gaimans Episode
In this episode, the TARDIS breaks down on an alien junkyard world, which is where the Doctor encounters Idris played by Suranne Jones.

"By the time the Doctor and friends meet her, she’s gone mad and ends up biting the Time Lord. . . but not on the bum".

"It’s rumoured Idris and the Doctor have met before, so who could she be? A new incarnation of the Rani, perhaps? Maybe the Master? Or a future version of the Doctor him. . . er, herself?"

Latest News Update

I have been out of action for a little while and there have been lots of updates in the Whoniverse so here is all the latest.

Over on the forum, Oh Wise One reported that Marnix Van Den Broeke has been seen on set over the last few days. The actor and stuntman has previously worked on Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkhaban and The Hogfather.

Sandiwich11 posted some pictures from filming of the first two episodes which saw Cardiff transformed in to 1960's New York.

Iceman also pointed out that the flag used on set and seen in the photograh through the link is one from pre 1960 which means either we will be seeing some timey wimey happenings or there is a glaring continuity error.

The BBC have revealed that we will be getting a sneak peak at the Christmas Special when it airs its annual Children In Need telethon on November 19th. Now word yet on whether we will get the reveal of a name, but it has been pointed out by Roranicus that there will be a special screening at the BFI on December 12th so if we dont find out the name at CIN then we should certainly know the name and plot outline by then.

In Torchwood news, Chad Michael Murray famous for his role in One Tree Hill, Enver Gjokaj who starred in Dollhouse and Amber Stevens who stars in Greek have all been tipped for parts in The New World, though Chad and Enver are apparantly after the same role.

Katherine Jenkins To Sing In Christmas Special?

This is from the Daily Star, so discression and buckets of salt is advised, but they are running a story saying that the 'Doctor Who' Christmas special will feature opera star Katherine Jenkins singing a love song as part of the story.

It will be the first time in the BBC sci-fi show's 47-year history that a musical performance will be integrated into a storyline.
The track is said to have been specially-written by Murray Gold - who pens all the music for the show.
A source has apparantly told the paper
"It's going to be an amazing surprise. We have never had anyone burst into song on 'Doctor Who'. It's a TV first for us. This will send ratings sky high."
What do you think of that then? Let us know below.

Karen GIllen Talks Christmas Specials and Beyond

While at the signing of her very own action figure in Glasgow yesterday, Karen Gillen gave little hints about her future in the show and what to expect from the Christmas Special this year.

Speaking of the Christmas episode she said:
“We’ve finished the Christmas special so that’s all in the can and it’s a good one. It’s really funny but it’s also heartbreaking and you get a glimpse into Amy and Rory’s honeymoon, which is an interesting one.

“There’s a really, really scary monster in the Christmas special.”

And when probed on whether she will be on the show beyond series 6, she added:
“Who knows? I’m just taking it series by series and I’m just having fun. So, I don’t know. I have no idea.”
