Spanish Shooting Updates

With last months revelation of filming for Doctor Who in Spain, this week has brought around some extra tidbits. Episode 3, which is being penned by Being Human creator Toby Whithouse, is set to be a Western themed story with a half human-half cyborg villain.

Filming on location has been taking place just north of Almeria in a place called Oaseys Theme Park, which is an area set up to look like the old American West and has been used for numerous films in the past.

Adrian Scarborough
Ben Browder

Casting confirmed for the episode included Ben Browder, known to many for his role in Farscape, Rob Cavazos, Dominic Kemp and Adrian Scarborough, start of Upstairs Downstairs, Miranda and Gavin and Stacey.

Not much is known about what characters they will play but Scarborough and Kemp have listed on their CVs the names Kahler Jax and Kahler Mas respectively.

If you were hanging around our Forum yesterday then you may have seen some of the updates from this weeks filming in Spain. A full collection can be seen on the forum, but a sample few are below.

Series 7: What We Know So Far

There has been lots of updates this week, so here is a roundup of what we know so far.

Filming on Series 7 began on Monday in Penarth for scenes inside the Ponds home. On set were Arthur Darvill, Karen Gillan and guest star Mark Williams. Filming then moved to Dunraven Bay in Southerndown, which has previously been used as Bad Wolf Bay and the scene of the crash of the Byzantium in The Time Of Angels.

Guest stars announced for the series include Mark Williams, who is well known to many for his roles in Harry Potter and The Fast Show, David Bradley, who has also appeared in the Harry Potter films amongst many others, Rupert Graves, most recently seen as Lestrade in Sherlock, Rudi Dharmalingham (Casualty, New Tricks) and Rob Cavazos.

As we reported about a month ago, filming will indeed be taking place in Spain this year, as confirmed by the CV of Rob Cavazos this week, who will be guest starting in the story. It is unknown when filming there will be taking place, but it is rumoured to be in the next few weeks.

The official BBC Press Release had this to say:
Series 7 will then see a dramatic turn of events when the Doctor meets a new friend. Prepare yourselves for thrills, adventures and dramatic surprises as the show builds towards its enormous, climactic 50th anniversary year. Fourteen big, blockbuster-movie episodes - each a brand new epic adventure featuring new monsters and some familiar foes as you've never seen them before.

It is specuated that the episode being filmed currently is episode 2 of the run. Filming is expected to continue throughout the week in and around the Cardiff area.

Series 7 Filming Updates, Rumours and Speculation

According to Matt Smith, filming for him on Series 7 is due to begin on Monday February 20th, with reheasals due to begin a week earlier on Monday February 13th. It has previously been rumoured that Alex Kingston would return to filming as River Song sometime around the 8th or 9th of February, though these dates are unconfirmed.

There is also some potential overseas filming to take place if the following is to be believed. One of our forum members, Oh-Wise-One, has posted this on the forum:
Feel free to shoot this down but a friend of mine who is a bit of an up and coming actor posted on Facebook this week that he had gotten a small role on the show and will be going to Spain to shoot. He takes it all very seriously so I can't imagine why he would lie about it, and he isn't a fanboy so I don't think it is something he would say to get people worked up. A couple of us pressed for more information but he wouldn't budge and then the following morning he deleted the comment. I'd say take it with a pinch of salt, but I have no reason to think he would lie about it either.
As the poster says, this is unconfirmed and should be taken with a huge pinch of salt, but it does open up the possibility that we may have some new information about overseas filming for this year. Australia is another country that had been previously rumoured as a potential location for series 7. With filming due to begin over the next few weeks, remember to keep checking back for all the latest updates, or for more in depth discussion of filming, spoilers and set information, check out our forum, The Doctor In The TARDIS Forum

Amy & Rory Confirmed For Christmas Special

Filming on this years Christmas Special has been continuing in Wales, with scenes being filmed yesterday in Bute Esplanade, where Amy and Rory's new home is situated, with Karen Gillan and Arthur Darvill both seen on set.

DoctorWhoSpoilers has got their hands on some photographs, which you can see has the houses decked out in Christmas lights with the TARDIS prop situated on the opposite side of the street.

This filming comes after last weeks reports of filming at Stradey Castle in Llanelli. It was previously unknown whether or not the due would be a part of this year's special, though Karen Gillan has previously confirmed that they will make appearances throughout series 7.

Chariots Of Fire

As filming on series 6 of Doctor Who drew to a close this weekend, the crew took to the streets of Cardiff and surprised onlookers with some extraordinary scenes.

The filming, which took place in the city centre and out at Bute Park saw a host of familar faces returning, so look away if you don't want to know who.

Filming this weekend saw the return of little Amelia, young Rory, Winston Churchill, Bearded Doctor, The Silents, The Romans and some Nazis, and there were no doubt more that just weren't seen.

It seems that people from all over history are spilling out onto the streets of modern day Cardiff (or wherever they will pretend Cardiff is in the latest episode) as they also filmed what appeared to be a chariot chase through the streets as this photo posted on the forum shows.

Another Double Helping Of Amy

Yesterdays filming at Brangwyn Hall in Swansea saw the place overrun with a slew of Nazi's and German holiday makers.

The filming, which is suspected to be from episode 8 saw Rory and Amy coming up against a Nazi guard, hoards of screaming people running screaming down the street and a motorbike chase. What has got most people chatting though is the news of TWO Amy's being filmed for the scenes. Over on the forum, Iceman reported this:
There is a Nazi bike chase. Rory is driving a motorcycle with Amy on the back. There is a bike ahead of them, with a girl on the back. She turns around to look slowly at Amy - it's Amy.

Looks like she has a doppelganger of her own.
So perhaps it isnt just the Doctor who gets cloned in series 6?

Sophie Returns

With the announcement that James Corden would reprise is role in Doctor Who during series 6, and multiple set reports and pictures showing him on set, many fans were left wondering whether we would also see the return of Daisy Haggard as his girlfriend Sophie too.

In a piece of script that was revealed last week, it seemed that Sophie had left Craig, and with no word on casting, and no sight of her on set it was looking as though we wouldn't be seeing another appearance, but over the forum, MandyDuchovney has just posted a great picture showing the pair back together and filming on set, putting speculation finally to rest on whether she would return.

Granny Pond

I wouldnt normally dedicate a post to a picture, but as well as being a slow news day (that is, aside from the titles for episode 1 and 2 that we revealed earlier HERE), the picture in question is actually quite a goodun.

Taken during a break from filming, the shot shows Karen Gillen in her role as Amy Pond for the filming of episode 10, and if you look closely you can see Matt in the background too.

EDIT: I have been informed that the picture was actually taken during filming for The Eleventh Hour during Series 5, and not for Series 6 as originally thought. Thanks to Pseudo for the heads up.

Miracle Day News

Lots of bits of info have been trickling through in regards to Miracle Day so here is some of the latest.

Last week saw the revelation of the casting of Ernie Hudson, known to many as Winston from Ghostbusters. Little is known about his role though at present. Other minor castings include David Youse and Randa Walker, as well as Jessica Matthews who has been cast as a news anchor.

Behind the scenes, Shawna Trpcic who is working as a costume designer revealed via her twitter feed that Guy Ferland and Gwyneth Horder-Payton have both signed on to direct episodes of the upcoming series, though again, as yet we do not know which ones. John Fay has announced that the episode he has written is episode 9. John Wells has also signed on to produce.

Filming this week has been taking place in Venice Beach where caughtonset.com managed to snap some pictures of Eve Myles mid filming.

Filming is set to continue this weel in LA, with rumours that it will be moving to South America in the next fortnight, though this is as yet unconfirmed. Kai Owen has revealed that he is due to fly out to LA to continue filming from this coming Saturday, 12th March.

The Cybermats Are Returning

In news that will no doubt delight fans, a video from filming taken by Timeboyy shows that the famous Cybermats will be making a reappearance in episode 12.

The video doesn't reveal much else about the story or plot, but it does feature James Cordon who returns to the series as Craig, the baby that we revealed last summer that would be seen in series 6 and the Doctors new green military style jacket.

How do you feel about the return of the Cybermats? Let us know below.

Series 6 Filming Continues

One of the many filming fan reporters who keeps me updated with news from various locations has sent me a tweet this morning to say that filming on series 6 is to resume from tomorrow.

It seems that this filming will be a continuation of all the castle filming they were doing before Christmas in Cardiff, Caerphilly and Chepstow, but tomorrow they move to St. Donats Castle, a stunning medieval castle near to where I grew up. I knew I shouldnt have moved away!

If any set reporters are in the area then get yourselves down there to have a look and see if you can spot some of the cast.

Utah Filming Reports

Over on the forum, Exterminate has reported that filming is to be set amongst other location in Utah, in Goblin Valley and on the Salt Flats, which has got people speculating as to whether we may be seeing some alien planets due to the obscure landscape styles. Below are pictures of both.

GOBLIN VALLEY

SALT FLATS

Two very different landscape styles found within a few miles of each other should give the production team plenty to work with. What do you think? Will Utah just be Utah, or will the use the opportunity to take us to another galaxy?

Utah Filming Details

A costing report apparantly from the production of the upcoming Utah location shooting for series 6 has been doing the rounds today and found its way over to our forum thanks to Sandiwich11. The sheet, amongst other things, indicates that filming will be taking place between 17th and 26th November and will be costing a fair amount of pennies. Or cents if you want to get into the American spirit.

Latest News Update

I have been out of action for a little while and there have been lots of updates in the Whoniverse so here is all the latest.

Over on the forum, Oh Wise One reported that Marnix Van Den Broeke has been seen on set over the last few days. The actor and stuntman has previously worked on Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkhaban and The Hogfather.

Sandiwich11 posted some pictures from filming of the first two episodes which saw Cardiff transformed in to 1960's New York.

Iceman also pointed out that the flag used on set and seen in the photograh through the link is one from pre 1960 which means either we will be seeing some timey wimey happenings or there is a glaring continuity error.

The BBC have revealed that we will be getting a sneak peak at the Christmas Special when it airs its annual Children In Need telethon on November 19th. Now word yet on whether we will get the reveal of a name, but it has been pointed out by Roranicus that there will be a special screening at the BFI on December 12th so if we dont find out the name at CIN then we should certainly know the name and plot outline by then.

In Torchwood news, Chad Michael Murray famous for his role in One Tree Hill, Enver Gjokaj who starred in Dollhouse and Amber Stevens who stars in Greek have all been tipped for parts in The New World, though Chad and Enver are apparantly after the same role.

Filming Starts In Openshaft Mine

This evening, filming for series 6 has shifted to an openshaft coal mine in Taffs Well, just down the road from the Upper Boat studios.

The filming sees the TARDIS stood in the middle of a rubble strewn pit surrounded by broken pillows and here is the first photo.
