Series 7 Filming Updates, Rumours and Speculation

According to Matt Smith, filming for him on Series 7 is due to begin on Monday February 20th, with reheasals due to begin a week earlier on Monday February 13th. It has previously been rumoured that Alex Kingston would return to filming as River Song sometime around the 8th or 9th of February, though these dates are unconfirmed.

There is also some potential overseas filming to take place if the following is to be believed. One of our forum members, Oh-Wise-One, has posted this on the forum:
Feel free to shoot this down but a friend of mine who is a bit of an up and coming actor posted on Facebook this week that he had gotten a small role on the show and will be going to Spain to shoot. He takes it all very seriously so I can't imagine why he would lie about it, and he isn't a fanboy so I don't think it is something he would say to get people worked up. A couple of us pressed for more information but he wouldn't budge and then the following morning he deleted the comment. I'd say take it with a pinch of salt, but I have no reason to think he would lie about it either.
As the poster says, this is unconfirmed and should be taken with a huge pinch of salt, but it does open up the possibility that we may have some new information about overseas filming for this year. Australia is another country that had been previously rumoured as a potential location for series 7. With filming due to begin over the next few weeks, remember to keep checking back for all the latest updates, or for more in depth discussion of filming, spoilers and set information, check out our forum, The Doctor In The TARDIS Forum

Is Jenny Returning?

Various sources around the web are reporting that Episode 7 of series 6 will see the return of Jenny, the Doctor's daughter. If the rumours are correct though, we will be seeing her in her second incarnation.

As far as I am aware the main source for the rumour stems from IMDB, which is probably one of the most unreliable on the web, but the actress in question, Catrin Stewart, is listed there as a character called 'Jenny' and now rumours are rife that it will be the same character originated by Georgia Moffat.

The other explanation of course is that she will be starring and will be playing a character called Jenny, but one that is totally different.

Huge handfuls of salt are needed with this one, but just in case....

Who's The BabyDaddy?

UnrealityShout is reporting that the mid series cliffhanger of series 6 will see Amy fall pregnant, causing a babydaddy drama in the TARDIS.

According to the site, when Amy excitedly tells Rory that she is pregnant he will accuse her of an affair with the Doctor and even Vincent Van Goch.

While this sounds a bit crazy, especially given that after the story sounds very tacky and that after the Big Bang Amy was technically reborn and so couldn't be pregnant by Vincent, the have been rumours of a pregnancy flying around for a while, as well as the email we recieved at 'TARDIS Spoilers' a few months back from a girl saying that her baby twin brothers had been seen for the part of a baby on the show.

For now, I would say that the majority, if not all of this story is made up, but we thought it should be shared nonetheless.

And Now For Some Exciting Speculation...

Ok, so the last article brought to you all the latest news from the Whoniverse that has so far been confirmed, but there is a whole lot more that is so far just speculation, so with that in mind this is what we know. Kinda.

DOCTOR WHO
  • Amy becomes pregnant, leading her and Rory to leave the show. This could be potentially backed up by an email I recieved about 2 months ago from a girl claiming her baby twin brothers had been seen for the part of a baby. Perhaps the Doctor pays them one last visit after its born?
  • River will die in series 6 in an alternate timeline (and so ignoring the events of Silence In The Library)
  • The Cavaliers and Nazi's seen in the trailer are the passengers of a SIDRAT, last seen in the second Doctor story The War Games. If true, this could be what Gaiman was alluding to when he said we would see something in his script not seen since the above story.
  • There will be a lady wearing an eyepatch in the opening story. Some have speculated this may actually be Amy
  • CNN report that Series 6 will be aired simultaneously in the UK and USA
  • River Song's name is actually fake and her real name will be revealed in series 6
  • The Doctor will be cloned in the opening story
  • Amy Joins the MIB
  • DoctorWhoSpoilers, via Digital Spy, have hinted that Edgar Wright may direct for series 6
  • One of the episodes may have a medieval setting (probably speculated because of the castle filming)
  • Mondas Cybermen will make a return in an Egyption set episode
  • The TARDIS library and swimming pool will make a brief appearance before the Doctor jettisons them off into space in order to gain power for the TARDIS
  • The astronaut seen in the trailer for series 6 is part of the crew of Apollo 10.5
  • Finally, you can't have a serious article about speculation unless you include the following. River is:
    • The Rani
    • Donna
    • Amy
    • Romana 1
    • Romana 2
    • The Master
    • Anyone else who has ever appeared in the show

TORCHWOOD
  • Mekhi Phifer has been cast as Rex Matheson (At the moment unconfirmed)
  • Den Of Geek state that Bill Pullman has been cast as Oswald Jones (At the moment unconfirmed)
  • Tom Price has hinted that he will return as PC Andy in some American filmed scenes
  • Ausiello report that Jack will have a one night stand with a 20something guy called Brad
  • Episodes will air in the UK from the second week of July
  • Jack will get a new costume
THE SARAH JANE ADVENTURES
  • There will be a 'companion of the week' throughout series 5 (though this was also said of series 4 and so might be rubbish)
All of the above speculation, unless stated in the individual bullet points comes from members of the forum or messages sent to me via the news page. As always with speculation I advise you to take it all with a pinch of salt until confirmed or proven untrue.

Funniest Who Rumour Of The Week

The Daily Star are getting more comedic by the week and today they are on fine form reporting that unless the BBC make a movie of Doctor Who, then Matt Smith has no plans to stick around.

Im kinda paraphrasing, but that is the gist of it. Their quote from him is as follows:

I’d definitely be up for staying on if they did a film – hell yeah. I would be thrilled if there could be a movie version – I want them to do it. There is something brilliantly televisual about Doctor Who but I think it could definitely work as a film.
The article then goes on about how the BBC are worried about coming up with the cash in order to keep him. Because obviously when you decide to put this sort of ultimatum to the BBC, you do it through the Star. Add to that that if you read his quote, it actually says no such thing, and its quite a funny old read. They even manage to bring life back to the 'Doctor Who cures malaria in Africa' movie rumours.

Return Of Rose?

I'm thinking this is probably either a big misunderstanding or some hoax cooked up while times are quiet on the news front, but I have had three seperate emails in the space of about 30 minutes claiming Billie has been seen on set with Matt Smith today.

Now, before everyone gets excited (or angry) I am pretty sure that Secret Diary is currently filming (though I dont know that for sure), so it could be something to do with that (though not sure why MS would be there, if it was actually him) OR she could be in the area and popped in for a nosey. Or it could be someone who looks like Billie, but indeed isnt.

I wouldnt get your hopes up, but I always pass on what I am told and this is the latest. Take it with a pinch of salt people.

Another Classic Villain To Make A Return?

An email was sent to me earlier today from somebody claiming that the Celestial Toymaker is set to make a return during series 6.

Details were a bit hazy and there wasnt a lot of information to go on, but it was implied that he would make two appearances, the first being during the Doll House set episode.

The Toymaker first appeared in the now mostly lost First Doctor serial, The Celestial Toymaker in 1966. He was due to make a return appearance during series 23 before all individual stories were dropped in favour of Trial of a Time Lord.

As always with these kind of things I advise you to take it with a pinch of salt until confirmed, but if true this could be very exciting.

More Series 6 Updates

Many news sources are jumping on the fact that at yesterdays television festival, Moffatt referred the second set of episodes shown next year as series 7.

Talking about the the cliffhanger at the end of the first set of episodes to air, Moff said that it would not be resolved until they came back for series 7, putting more fuel to the rumours that the series six hasnt been split in half, but has been halved itself. If this is true, it could mean that from 2012 we could be getting just one series of 6 or 7 episodes.

In other news, Moffat hinted that we wont be seeing the Daleks next year, as has previously been rumoured, saying, "There will be a Dalek story when we've got a good idea for a Dalek story. When that happens, there will be lots of different kinds of Daleks."

It has previously been rumoured that the Daleks will be absent from Series 6 and held back until the 2011 Christmas Special.

A Rest For The Daleks?

There are some whispers from various people that The Daleks will be missing from the entirity of Series 6, to stop them feeling overused.

The Daleks, which have appeared at least once in every series since the shows return, underwent a makeover for series 5 which caused many fans to speak out to say they hated the new look and were tired of seeing them so often.

It seems though that perhaps the production team are feeling the same, because if rumours are to be believed we won't be seeing them again for over a year, when they return in explosive style for the 2011 Christmas Special.

As always, if I dont have proof of something then I advise you to take these rumours with a pinch of salt for the time being, but with all this in mind, how would you feel about a Dalek-less Series 6? Let us know below or via Twitter.

Captain, Captain

As I reported yesterday (here), some extra casting for the Christmas Special has been confirmed via the Doctor Who Magazine. One of the names on that list is Pooky Quesnel.

Looking at her online CV (here), it shows that she will be playing a character known as The Captain. Some of you may remember the rumours going around a couple of weeks back (here) concerning Jason Issacs, also reported to be making an appearance in the special as a character called The Captain.

So with this in mind, does it mean those rumours can be quashed? Taking a potential giant leap here, it seems safe to assume that either there are two captains OR Doctor Who will be airing its first gender bending episode OR those Jason Issacs rumours were just that, rumours. As always, as soon as we know more you will be updated

Torchwood S4 Named?

Many sources around the big ol' interweb are reporting that the newest series of Torchwood, which will be shown on Starz and BBC1 in 2011, will be given a series title of Torchwood: The New World

As yet nothing has been confirmed, and there has been no indication to assume that the series would be given an overall title, like the mini series Children of Earth had in 2009, but it is worth reporting on nonetheless, just incase there is some truth to it.

Doctor Who Being Cancelled!!

Well obviously it isnt, but the monkeys over at The Sun have been sat in front of those expensive typewriters once again and this is the story they have come up with now.

Despite Steven Moffat speaking out last week to say that Matt Smith isnt going anywhere and the role of The Doctor isnt being recast, proving their last 'scoop' wrong about him quitting, they have once again outdone themselves and managed to work his quote into an admission that the show will instead be cancelled.

They have come up with this based on the fact that the first episode of Sherlock proved popular, and so with Steven Moffat at the helm of both, one will have to make room for the other.

Last week after they ran their story about Matt leaving, Steven Moffat made a comment about how he was staying for the forseeable and joked "Matt Smith is the Doctor and he has been an astonishing success and - who knows - maybe he will never regenerate again."

The Sun however have managed to see this as a claim that the Doctor will not be regenerating again because the show will be cancelled first to make way for Sherlock.

99% of people know not to believe anything that appears in The Sun, and I have already reported previously on the work already underway preparing for Series 7, and the fact we know Doctor Who is moving to the new Drama village for Series 8, so there is nothing to worry about, but lets hope this one gets nipped in the bud before people really do start believing it.

Thanks to @markacollins for finding the story.

Karen Gillan denies Matt Smith is leaving

After all those rumours last week about Matt Smith quitting in the role of Doctor Who, Karen Gillan who plays companion Amy Pond has spoken out to deny the stories.

Speaking to Tim Walker of The Telegraph, Karen said, "Matt will be sticking around, those rumours were made up."

Short and sweet, but with a bit of luck the rumours will finally be put to bed and we can stop reading all the nonsense in the papers now.

Barrowman on Torchwood 4 and why Ianto fans should 'get over it'

John Barrowman has revealed some little tidbits of Torchwood information during a recent interview including scripts, shooting info and why Ianto fans need to get over it. Most of the bits we know already though.

I won't put the whole interview in, just the relevent bits, so here goes.

In regards to scripts and filming...
"I can’t tell you anything about the script because I don’t know! The only thing I can say is that we will be filming in different locations in the UK and in North America next year, and Russell T Davies will be writing it. I don’t want to say that Jack will be the same but his sexuality will be honored. I can’t say much about [returning characters or stories] because it depends on the script. Russell has an arc of the story and is working on the script and that’s what I am waiting on."

In regards to Ianto's death and the fan reaction...
"Get over it. I know that’s harsh but comes a point where you have to move on with the story. We had to do something that would create a massive drama and we didn’t discuss it because everyone was happy with it and that was just it. But who knows what will happen in the future. I remember I tweeted a couple of weeks back announcing the new series of Torchwood and from all the replies I got only one person said that they were not going to watch it because Ianto wasn’t going to be in it, and I suspect that he probably will still watch! Jack will still be Jack and we will not put him back in the closet and people should let him have other relationships. I for one am excited by Captain Jack’s future."

Tutankhamun's Tomb For Series 6?

Ive been sent word that we will have a two part story set in Egypt for series 6, possibly to be set during the 1923 opening of Pharoah Tutankhamun's tomb, with apparent talks of the crew going abroad to film in a desert.

How true this is remains to be seen, and of course it would come down to having the right story and budgetary allowances, but if true could be quite an interesting story, especially with the supposed 'curse' surrounding the excavation.

The person who sent me this is usually spot on with his spoilers so although I adivise you to treat it as speculation for the time being, it might just be something that we will be seeing in the new series. They have filmed overseas in the past after all.

Is this something you would be happy to see in the show?

Daleks Return?

I have just recieved a text and an email from two friends in Cardiff who say they have just seen a scene being filmed with a Dalek on the outskirts of Cardiff. Whether this is for the Christmas Special, or something to do with the Proms is as yet unknown. As soon as I find out more I will let you know.

Matt Smith Isn't Quitting Doctor Who

The Sun is having a slow news day again and so have decided to sit one of their monkeys down in front of a typewriter and make something sensational up. As is often the case with the Sun, they have turned their attention to Doctor Who, this time running a story that he plans to quit. It's bollocks! Ignore it.

What they are saying is this:

Matt, 27, has told pals he wants to go after just two series of the BBC1 sci-fi show so he can try his hand at movies.

The actor is currently filming this year's Christmas special with Karen Gillan, who plays his sidekick Amy Pond, and opera star Katherine Jenkins.

He will then go straight into production on the new series, which will air next year.

But a pal said: "Matt plans to quit after the next series.

"He is eager to try new things and thinks Hollywood beckons."

His Doctor Who exit would disappoint fans after he made a promising start as David Tennant's successor.

It would also shock BBC bosses, who had hoped that the younger actor would stay longer than the three series that Tennant did.

It's well documented that Matt Smith has signed a three year contract with the BBC, with the possibility to extend beyond, so the chances of Matt just deciding to give up at the end of series 6 just isn't going to happen unless the BBC release him from his contract by basically sacking him. Since planning on series 7 is already underway, you can be sure that you won't be saying hello to a new Doctor next summer. Unless you hear it from the BBC or Matt himself, discard it as rumour.

Matt recently told Digital Spy that he loved playing the Doctor and did not want "to give it up any time soon", quipping that he could continue in the role for "50 million years".

The Torchwood Casting Call Sheet

For about three days now a rumour about a Torchwood casting call has been doing the rounds. Lots of people have messaged me via Twitter about it and lots of people have been posting messages about it with excitement and horror. I wasn't going to even mention it, but since so many people have asked about it, I thought it should be touched upon. Basically the descriprion of what they want for the show is as follows:

Rex Matheson is a twenty-something CIA agent who is an arrogant thrill seeker. In addition, the show is casting for two recurring roles: Esther Katusi and Oswald Jones. Esther is a new Watch Analyst for the CIA who is secretly in love with Rex. Oswald is a new villain, a forty-something murderer and pedophile.

Fear not though, the casting call is a fake and these are NOT characters that the Torchwood team are looking to cast for the show. A similar 'leak' with different character names was released by a magazine as an April Fools joke earlier this year and it seems the information has been twisted and added to to make this rumour, only with it not being April, more and more people seem to have been taken in by it.

As always, when the real information comes in we will keep you informed, but for now discard this rumour and shout loudly at anyone you meet who believes it to be real while looking at them in horror.

TARDIS Based Episode In The Pipeline?

According to an article in todays Sunday Times, Steven Moffat has set the challenge to his team of writers to come up with an episode set entirely within the confines of the TARDIS.

Given the current multi series story of the TARDIS possibly being controlled by some sort of external force, known by fans as 'The Voice', this could be a strong contender for one of the 13 slots available for Series 6, though obviously nothing has been confirmed.

The last time the show had a story set entirely inside the TARDIS was The Edge Of Destruction in 1964. It was the third ever televised Doctor Who story.

Would you be happy to see a story set entirely in the TARDIS? Let us know.

The Returning River?

As we have mentioned before, despite certain media outlets claiming that the sky is falling in on Doctor Who, the BBC itself are quite happy, and plans are already underway for series 7 of the show. Last night, at an ungodly hour when we were trying to get our beauty sleep, we got an interesting email about River Song and her place within the future of the show.

Because Alex Kingston who plays the mysterious time jumper lives in California, efforts have been made to make sure that the shows producers secure her availability for series 6. This is already in the bag we are told and she is already signed on for all the relevent episodes of the next series.

But now for the interesting part. The part that is either going to make you incredibly happy, or incredibly annoyed...

According to our source, Steven Moffat has been having 'secret' meetings with Alex and her agent about bringing her into the show full time for series 7. Alex, who loves working on the show has apparantly taken some persuading. Not because she wouldnt love the job, but because spending 9 months filming in the UK is a big commitment when she lives so far away.

It seems that Moffat though would have the gift of the gab, because earlier this week her Californian home was put up for sale and her team was said to be looking for a a base for her in Cardiff Bay, near to where the show is filmed.

Obviously if all this is true, then it will be a while before the BBC confirms anything, and as always we want to point out that this can only be treated as speculation for the time being, but it would certainly seem that we will be seeing a lot more of River Song in the future. How do you feel about that?
